I just finished setting up a new dedicated server at Gigenet.com. This is my review of the experience.
The server was ready the same day I ordered it. I did encounter one immediate problem – there was no copy of the Windows 2003 install CD on the computer. This is a problem because you need it to install POP3, DNS, and FTP. So I contacted support – around midnight on a Friday night. They responded within minutes and a tech (Zach) went and connected a CD drive to the server so that I could access the CD.
The next day I was dealing with another problem. My domain was not resolving to an IP address and for the life of me I could not figure out why. So I contacted support again – and again got a response within minutes. Chris Manfre offered to take a look at my DNS setup. He quickly identified the problem: I had opened the port for DNS in the firewall, but only for TCP, not UDP. This fixed it and now I am a very happy camper.
So in summary, not only are these guys good, but they are very responsive to trouble tickets, and they are on the job 24/7. I highly recommend Gigenet to anyone looking for a dedicated server.
